Valleybrook Park Mini-Forest
A Mini-Forest is a community of native trees and shrubs planted tightly together in an urban or suburban site based on the Miyawaki method. The Miyawaki Method is a reforestation technique that transforms small spaces into dense, multilayered forests using diverse native species and intensive soil preparation
Community volunteers came together Sept-Nov 2024 to prepare the soil and plant 300 trees and shrubs, with 3 species planted per square meter.
This new mini forest will be nurtured by Grandmother’s Voice in relationship with The Town of Oakville, Oasis Ontario, and Kayanase Greenhouse. It is supported by the Ontario Greenbelt Foundation and the Living Cities Canada Fund through Green Communities Canada.
